CONCORD – When McKinley Meeks scored with just under four minutes remaining in regulation to help the Cox Mill girls soccer team equalize and eventually beat Asheville T.C. Roberson in Tuesday night’s 3A state semifinal matchup, a massive roar went up from the Charger stands.
However, as much jubilation as there was on the field and in the bleachers, there was probably an even greater sense of relief.
For the third straight year, the Chargers found themselves in the Final Four, but the first two both ended in anguish at the hands of eventual champion Weddington. This year, the opponent was different, but for a majority of the game, it seemed as though the result would be the same.
