CONCORD – The Cream of Cabarrus third-ranked Central Cabarrus girls basketball team dominated Mount Pleasant in every way Friday night, as the homestanding Vikings defeated the Tigers, 62-14.
The Class 3A Vikings stormed out to an 18-3 lead after one quarter and took a 37-5 advantage into halftime. They never allowed the 2A Tigers to score more than five points in a quarter.
Senior guard Demi Case paced Central Cabarrus by scoring a game-leading 12 points. Senior forward Aniyah Tate had 11 points and moved closer to reaching the 1,000-point plateau for her career. Currently, she has 983 points.
According to Vikings coach Brandon Blalock, Tate also is on pace to also register 1,000 rebounds for her career. The last Viking to reach that rebounding milestone was former forward Elanna Peay, who graduated in 2017.
Junior guard Kayla Ballard was the top scorer for Mount Pleasant with five points.
Central Cabarrus improved to 8-5, while the Tigers fell to 3-11.
